《保卫延安》是一部著名的“红色经典”，它从基层写起，描写了一九四七年春，红军在国民党军(日军一九四五年已投降)已绝对的优势兵力发动了疯狂进攻的情况下，由防御转为进攻，取得西北战场辉煌胜利的故事，赞颂了诸多解放军战士奋不顾身、视死如归的大无畏气概和许多红军指战员镇定自若、运筹帷幄的智慧与品质，感人肺腑。
